Definition: Percentage, as volume of pure ethyl alcohol, contained in an alcoholic drink. An alcoholic drink is defined by its alcohol content. The specific weight of alcohol is 0.8. Alcohol specialists often express alcohol consumption in "units" or "glasses", believing that the alcohol content of the different drinks consumed in cafés a glass of red or white wine, a half of beer, a measure of pastis or whisky, or a small glass of calvados or rum contains approximately 10 g pure alcohol (see Figure below).
